Where is Boracay?

Boracay Island is located in the Visayas region of the Philippines, off the northwest corner of Panay Island.

Getting there by Air

This is the quickest way to the island, and Boracay Tourist’s travel method of choice. Note that you will be flying either to Caticlan or Kalibo, never directly to Boracay Island, which doesn’t have an airport.

Caticlan is where the ferry is waiting to take you to Boracay. From the Caticaln airport to the ferry is only ten minutes. Only smaller planes fly here.

Kalibo has a larger airport. Upon arriving here, you have a 1 1/2 to 2-hour trip by air conditioned bus or private mini van to Caticlan.

Once you have reached Caticlan, you have a twenty minute banca trip to Boracay Island.

Airlines that fly to Caticlan and Kalibo are: Philippine Airlines, Asian Spirit, Cebu Pacific, and Air Philippines.

Getting there by Land

If you want to go by land, keep in mind that your trip will be longer.

Iloilo-Caticlan by mini-van or bus takes about 4 to 5 hours.
Iloilo-Caticlan by taxi or car takes about 3-4 hours.

March 14, 2008

Don’t leave the island before doing these:

  1. Watersports. Try kiteboarding, skimboarding, or parasailing.
  2. Diving. With diving lessons and gear from Boracay Scuba, explore the island’s magnificent marine life.
  3. Beach Sports. Beach soccer, volleyball, frisbee (you don’t need special gear for these!)
  4. Inland Sports. All Terrain Vehicle, Horseback Riding, Hiking at Mt. Luho (the island’s highest point).
  5. A Massage on the Beach. Best in one of Waling-Waling’s cozy beach cabanas.
  6. No-pain Tattoos. Get tribal curlicues with a henna tattoo.
  7. Hair Braids. From corn rows to dreadlocks.
  8. Watch the fire dancers at Hey Jude. After 10pm when everybody’s swinging!
  9. Visit Butterfly Farm. Located near Fairways & Bluewater.
  10. Watch the sunset, sail around the island, or bum around the beach. All which you’re likely to do anyway, but we thought we’d include them here.
